In a bid to revolutionize the province’s economy and contribute to the country’s growing demand for data centers and cloud center, Cong Abet Garcia, Cong Gila Garcia, Mayor Jopet Inton and representatives of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) are one in saying that, the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) can be converted into a state-of-the-art data center and Morong will be a Cybertown.
Cong Gila emphasized that under the E-Gov Bill, there’s a provision that we can establish an ICT Academy, which can be part of the master plan in making Morong a cybertown.
According to Cong Abet, a high level meeting was held at the Raffles Hotel in Makati, recently between the Asian Development Bank (ADB-PHIL), the officials of the Dept. of Information and Communications Technology, other stakeholders and some Bataan officials to discuss the project feasibility and implementation aimed at exploring the potential benefits of converting BNPP into a data center and a cybertown
Under the plan, the BNPP site will be transformed into a Cyber hub for data centers, cloud services and other information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructures. The project, said Cong Gila, is expected to generate significant economic benefits, create jobs and contribute not only to the province, but more so to the country’s growing ICT industry.
Cong Abet likewise reiterates that the project also aligns with the government’s push for digital transformation and its goal of establishing the Philippines as a major player in the Global ICT industry.
